How To Find And Defeat Wandering Wight Black Myth Wukong (Ultimate Guide)

Want an early extra challenge in Black Myth: Wukong? Prepare for the Wandering Wight, a small optional miniboss that can be found well within the Forest of Wolves. But first, you need to find him. So here’s how to find the Wandering Wight in Black Myth Wukong. We’ll also show you how to get the Red Tides Spell and its location.

How To Find The Wandering Wight In Black Myth Wukong

To do that, pass the Outside the Forest Shrine and follow the right path to find this big baddie. Take out the annoying wolves, cross over the bridge, and look for an opening. That is where you will find the Wandering Wight huge, blue behemoth of a creature patrolling the clearing.

Now, the thing is he’s guarding a cave that leads further into Chapter 1, but actually battling him is totally up to you. He’s an optional encounter, but trust me, for those brave enough to take him on, the rewards are worth it!

How To Beat The Wandering Wight In Black Myth Wukong

The Wandering Wight is a pretty difficult optional boss battle. You’re going to struggle and most players would skip out on the boss fight. But that’s a big mistake, if you ask me, because his Sage Spirit is OP.

Wandering Wight Moveset

This miniboss doesn’t mess around, folks. He’ll send you straight back to the shrine if you don’t learn his moveset. So, let’s break it down:

  • Swipe and Shuffle Combo: The Wight gets low and shuffles towards you with its hands out. This has surprising range and circles around it. Best bet? Disengage or dodge behind it.
  • Palm Earthquake Attack: This one’s a killer. The Wight slams its palm down, causing an eruption. Sometimes that’s it, but other times it keeps pushing, creating an expanding earthquake. RUN when you see the hand go down. If you’re feeling spicy, try dodging through the shockwaves for extra damage.
  • Stomp Combo: Big windup, big damage. When the Wight lifts its foot high, back off! It can follow up with more stomps or a head slam.
  • Jumping Stomp: It jumps and tries to squish you. Watch for its feet leaving the ground and react quickly.
  • Hand Blast: Devastating and fast. The Wight pulls its hand back then pushes it forward, shooting a massive energy beam. Dodge sideways or roll through it at the right time.
  • Running Clap: It leans down, hands to the side? It’s about to charge and clap. Run or dodge when it gets close. There’s a variant where it wiggles its arms and slams the ground, but the strategy’s the same.
  • Headbutt: Quick and brutal. The Wight pulls its head back slightly before slamming it down. Dodge back immediately.

Note: The key here is avoiding hits. The Wight hits HARD, so unless you’re confident, back away instead of dodging. Don’t get greedy, and you’ll take this boss down.

How To Prepare For The Wandering Wight Optional Mini Boss – Black Myth Wukong

Black Myth Wukong Immobilize Spell

Red Tides Transformation Spell Location

Red Tides Spell Location Black Myth Wukong

The Wandering White is actually harder than the wolf boss that comes after him, so don’t worry if you’re struggling. I’m not experienced with these types of combat games, so if I can do it, so can you. My first tip is to get the Transformation ability from the other mini wolf boss—the one with the fire blade. After you defeat him, pick up his blade to gain the ability to transform into him for a short period of time. This is known as Red Tides. So, here’s how you can get the Red Tides spell early on.

How to Get Red Tides

You’ll need to defeat Guangzhi, an optional boss located in the Forest of Wolves – Outside the Forest area in Black Wind Mountain. He’s tucked away at the back, past the small bridge. It’s a tough fight early on, but totally worth it for this incredible Transformation.

This beastly transformation turns you into a ferocious wolf guai, capable of inflicting Scorch Bane with every strike. It’s a game-changer, especially with those devastating heavy attacks.

  • Light Attack: Moon Dance – Rapid slashes that build Focus. Perfect for stunning enemies and catching them off guard.
  • Heavy Attack: Moon Chase – Unleash a series of dash attacks, with or without Focus, for potent strikes across an area.
  • Follow Dodge With Heavy Attack – This is where the real damage comes in. After dodging, execute a series of powerful slams that can decimate even bosses’ health bars.

Equipping Red Tides

Once you’ve claimed victory, head to any Shrine, choose ‘Reignite The Sparks’, and then ‘Set Spells’ to equip Red Tides. Now you can switch to this devastating form whenever you need to unleash its full fury!

Immobilize Spell

The other ability you should use early is the Immobilize spell. You want to activate these abilities early so they have time to recharge, giving you a chance to use them again during the fight. I like to start by attacking him from behind with some light attacks, then freezing him when he begins his counterattack. After he’s released, I transform into the wolf to deal more damage and set him on fire. I rushed the wolf transformation in my run, focusing too much on offense because I knew it wasn’t my real health at risk. In hindsight, I should’ve dodged more and played more cautiously to prolong the transformation.

The Wandering White has a lot of long, continuous attacks, so I suggest sticking with light attacks most of the time. There are three special moves you need to watch out for. First, there’s the Kamehameha-style energy attack, which caught me off guard multiple times. He’ll usually do sweeping attacks with his hands, but sometimes, instead of sweeping, he’ll charge up energy and fire it. If you dodge too early, he’ll still hit you, so be patient and time your dodge correctly.

The second move involves ground rocks, starting when he smashes the ground with his right hand. A wave of three rock attacks follows. You’ll want to back off as far as possible and heal if needed. After the third wave, he’ll perform the Kamehameha again, so wait for it, dodge, and then close the distance.

The third surprise attack occurs when you’re far away. He’ll run at you, clap his hands together, and launch an AoE energy wave. He initiates it by stepping back and preparing to sprint. It’s not hard to avoid, but it’s annoying when it catches you off guard.

His normal attacks are sweeping hand strikes and stomping with his feet, which are relatively easy to dodge once you’ve seen them a few times. I don’t recommend attacking him between these moves, as he doesn’t stop until his combo finishes. The best strategies are to immobilize him with the spell and get behind him, or stagger him with a heavy attack. If you stagger him enough, he’ll fall over, letting you deal extra damage.

It’ll probably take a few attempts to learn his attacks and get the timing right.

  • Important Note: Unfortunately, you can’t grab the Wandering Wight’s spirit right now. You’ll need to upgrade your gourd first, which happens shortly after the Bamboo Grove’s Snake Trail Shrine, thanks to a wise master. Once your gourd is powered up, you can return to a shrine to claim the spirit.

The Wandering Wight Spirit Is Missing in Black Myth Wukong?

If you defeat Elder Jinchi before taking down the Wandering Wight, he’ll vanish, and you’ll miss out on his spirit entirely for this playthrough. You’ll have to start a New Game+ to get another chance. Sorry, bud.
