Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer New Moves: Spinning Bludgeon
The Spinning Bludgeon is a fantastic move for unleashing rapid, successive blunt hits on monsters. One of the highlights of the Hammer’s new updates in Monster Hunter Wilds is its fluidity. You can enter Spinning Bludgeon during or after most attacks by pressing Triangle and Circle.
For instance, in the overhead smash combo, press Triangle up to three times and then transition into Spinning Bludgeon at any step by pressing Triangle and Circle. This move spins up to five times, but avoid the fifth spin as it ends in a stumble. During Spinning Bludgeon, you have several follow-up options, including a Spinning Side Smash, a Spinning Follow-Up, and the Spinning Strong Upswing, which serves as an offset attack.
By holding Triangle during the spin, you enter an upswing stance, perfect for timing monster attacks. To quickly enter Spinning Bludgeon, try using a stationary overhead smash with Triangle, then press Triangle and Circle.
MH Wilds Hammer New Moves: Spinning Bludgeon and Mighty Charge
A major new move in Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer changes is the Mighty Charge. This powerful charging attack ends with a strong smash that deals tremendous damage. Each charge level comes with unique exit moves, with Level 1 being the Mighty Charge Upswing and Level 2 the Mighty Charge Slam, which delivers the maximum damage.
To perform Mighty Charge, hold R2 while pressing Triangle and Circle. This move can be executed after most finishing moves or max-charged attacks. A quick way to enter Mighty Charge is to hold R2, charging the Hammer to Level 3, indicated by a red glow. At maximum charge, press Triangle and Circle with R2 held to activate Mighty Charge. Alternatively, after the fourth spin in a Spinning Bludgeon, press R2, Triangle, and Circle to transition smoothly into Mighty Charge, creating a loop between Spinning Bludgeon and Mighty Charge.
Offset Attack
The offset attack has been one of the biggest hits among Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer fans. It’s part of the iconic golf swing combo, delivering powerful hits with excellent control. This offset attack, the final hit in the golf swing combo, takes some practice but is highly rewarding. You can hold the input to time it with monster attacks, often resulting in a topple, which allows a follow-up with Mighty Charge.
While executing the Triangle combo (overhead smash), you can use directional inputs between each press to adjust your position, making it easier to land the offset attack. After the overhead smash, enter Spinning Bludgeon with Triangle and Circle, and then press or hold Triangle during the spin to return to the upswing stance.
Charge Step (Keeping Sway)
The Keeping Sway move from previous games has been rebranded as Charge Step in Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer updates. This move allows you to reposition while maintaining your charge level with R2, giving you added flexibility and invincibility frames for dodging. To execute Charge Step, press Circle while charging your Hammer with R2.
Big Bang Combo and Mighty Charge Finisher
One of the Hammer’s best damage-dealing combos in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Big Bang Combo. After Big Bang 4, you can go straight into a Mighty Charge, giving you a powerful finishing option. This combo pairs well with other moves like Spinning Bludgeon, creating potent attack sequences.
Earthquake Focus Strike
The Hammer’s focus strike, called Earthquake, is a spinning attack that deals substantial damage and opens wounds on monsters. Earthquake is not only quick but also allows you to retain charge levels. After entering focus mode, hold down the charge button; when you exit the focus strike, any charge accumulated will be preserved, allowing you to follow up with a Mighty Charge.
Midair Riding Attacks
While riding the Sacred in Monster Hunter Wilds, Hammer users have access to various attacks. Pressing Triangle repeatedly lets you attack in all directions. Dismounting with Triangle and Circle initiates a midair Spinning Bludgeon, ideal when performed from ledges. Sliding down a slope while holding R2 also triggers the midair Spinning Bludgeon.
This move links into the overhead smash with an upswing option for an offset attack. Jumping off your Sacred with X and pressing Triangle performs a jumping smash, while pressing R2 initiates a jumping-charged attack. Using the golf swing combo can also launch teammates into monsters, potentially leading to mounts.
Mount Finisher
The Hammer’s Mount Finisher is a powerful tool in Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer mechanics. While mounted, press R1 to open wounds on the monster; hitting a wound with R1 activates the Mount Finisher, a double-jump bonk attack that’s highly effective.
