Mark Zuckerberg might be inching closer to starting his own Twitch channel, and it’s all thanks to his love for the strategy game, Sid Meiere’s Civilization.
Mark Zuckerberg Wants To Livestream Civilization On Twitch
In late September, Zuckerberg caught up with Pubity during Meta’s annual Connect event in Menlo Park, California. During their chat, the Meta CEO mentioned the idea of streaming Civilization on Twitch.
“Priscilla checked out my Steam account recently and said, ‘What?! You’ve played this for over a thousand hours,’” Zuckerberg shared. “When it comes to strategy games, Civilization is the one I’d want to be the best in the world at.”
He went on to say, “I think at some point, I should stream a game on Twitch with someone because I’m pretty sure I’m close to grandmaster status. I’d honestly be surprised if anyone could beat me.”
Zuckerberg has been a fan of Civilization since his middle school days, and the game even influenced his decision to become an engineer. In a past speech, he revealed that he was actually playing Civilization when he received his acceptance email from Harvard.
“How many of you remember exactly what you were doing when you found out you got into Harvard? I was playing Civilization,” he said.
Civilization, created by Sid Meier and Bruce Shelley in 1991, challenges players to guide a civilization through history, building an empire that can stand the test of time. Players take on the role of a famous historical leader and make critical economic, political, and military decisions in pursuit of victory. With six main installments in the series, the seventh will be released on February 11, 2025.
Though Zuckerberg hasn’t officially launched a Twitch channel yet, the upcoming release of Civilization VII could be the push he needs to start streaming. If that happens, he’ll be joining the ranks of well-known streamers like Kai Cenat, xQc, Pokimane, and TommyInnit.
Meanwhile, Zuckerberg’s rival, Elon Musk, has been streaming Diablo 4 on X, racking up millions of views in the process.
