Manor Lords Beginner’s Guide To Crops

So, you’ve just started playing Manor Lords and aren’t used to RTS-style City Building games. You thought this was going to be Total War all over? Wrong. Manor Lords is a cozy yet punishing survival city-building game like Cities Skylines, and you need to make sure your villagers don’t go starving, otherwise you’ll be in a heap of trouble. So, let’s dive into the types of Crops you need to grow and start out with in Manor Lords.

Manor Lords Beginners Guide To Crop Types Summary

TL;DR, here’s a summary of everything you need to know about crop types and their uses in Manor Lords

  • Wheat and Rye are used to make grain, which is turned into flour and further processed into Communal Bread. Bread is needed by villagers to eat.
  • Barley is used to make malt, which is then processed into Ale. Ale is used for entertainment purposes.
  • Flax is used to create Linen, which is further processed into Gambesons and Clothing. They’re used for… wearing clothes?

There are four main types of crops in that you need to farm and unlock as you progress through the game. These are wheat, barley, rye, and flax.

  • Wheat
  • Rye
  • Flax
  • Barley

What Are Wheat and Rye Used For?

Manor Lords Wheat and Rye Uses

Wheat and Rye both produce grain, which both eventually yields flour. And you know what’s up next. Flour is used to make communal bread. Bread is needed to feed your villagers. Before you begin making a Wheat or Rye Crop plantation, make sure to check the soil fertility of the area.

My personal suggestion is to use the Rye Fertility Overlay, since Rye can grow easily in tons of different areas where other crops like Wheat cannot. Make sure to select cultivate and plow areas with green plots of land. Otherwise, you’ll be in a heap of trouble till the winters arrive.

Wheat and Rye are the most important crops you need to create towards the start of the year, during Spring, right before March rears its head. If you’re heavy into farming, make sure to invest your Development Points into Apple Orchard to unlock Rye Cultivation to maximize your food yield.

Manor Lords: What is Barley Used For?

Barley Uses

Barley is used to create Malt, which is then converted into Ale for entertainment purposes to keep your villagers alive and lively. Otherwise, they’re going to be down in the dumps. Thankfully, Slavic Magic addressed the issue of high Ale consumption in the latest Manor Lords Update, so the villagers are now going a bit easy on the harsh stuff.

What is Flax Used For in Manor Lords?

Flax is used for clothing purposes. In particular, Flax seeds are converted into Linen which is then further processed into Gambesons or Clothing which requires Dye as well. You don’t want your villagers to roam around clothesless, do you?

Summary

That pretty much sums up the main types of Crops you need to keep your eyes on in Manor Lords to keep your villagers alive, keep them entertained, and keep them warm in the winters.
