Helldivers 2 PSN Account Link? NOPE. Following the recent Helldivers 2 update, Helldivers 2 Steam has received tons of negative review bombs on Steam–just showing how much of an uproar the community currently is in. A lot has happened in the past 24 hours. Sony seemingly went back on their word, requiring a PSN account linked to your Steam ID to play PlayStation PC games–which in this case is Helldivers 2.
Many players across the globe don’t have access to the PSN or the PlayStation Network in their region, preventing them from playing Helldivers 2 entirely–hence the negative Steam reviews. Ever since the new update went live, Helldivers 2 Steam Charts haven’t been looking all too pretty. The concurrent Helldivers 2 player count has dropped from an average of 200,000 players to a mere 40,000-60,000 players–which surprises me.
Helldivers 2 PSN Account Link Drama: Devs and Sony Want Players To Link Their Steam ID To PSN Accounts
The Helldivers 2 devs dropped a 500 kg bombshell on all of us last night with a post. The post stated that due to technical difficulties ever since the launch of Helldivers 2, the devs had decided to update the linking requirements for Steam to a Sony PSN account. Previously, it was optional and not much of a problem for many Helldivers 2 Sony PSN players, but that period had now “expired”.
Helldivers Steam Charts Nosedive: Helldivers 2 Steam Reviews Bombing
Helldivers 2 Players were now given a deadline to link their Helldivers 2 PSN Accounts to Steam as of May 6, 2024. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to play the game. The reason for this update was “safety concerns”. Apparently, Sony and Helldivers 2 devs over at Arrowhead Studios wanted to mitigate griefing and cheating concerns.
But as expected, the Helldivers 2 community fired back with an EAT-17-level backlash. Helldivers 2 had been hell bombed with tons of negative Steam Review Bombs. And as a sort of (supposedly temporary boycott), the Helldivers 2 Steam Charts player count has dropped to around 40,000-60,000 concurrent players as of today.
Helldivers 2 Reddit and Helldivers 2 Discord Communities Were Not Having Any Of It
Helldivers 2 Reddit and Helldivers 2 Discord communities took the latest update with a bit of salt, to say the least. Of course, we all felt betrayed by Arrowhead Studios. Tons of Helldivers 2 memes popped up, with the Helldivers 2 Next Major Order being “Contain Sony Security Breaches”.
Why Is The Community Infuriated About Helldivers 2 Steam PSN Account Linking
It’s not the first time a developer has indirectly pushed us to link our Steam accounts with their other platform accounts or IDs. Take the example of The Finals. Players trying to start up The Finals were unable to play the game due to an error. The error could only be fixed by linking your Steam Account to your Embark ID. But why is linking your Helldivers 2 Steam Account to your Helldivers 2 PSN Account such a big problem?
Well, it all comes down to regional issues. Only 69 countries currently allow players to create a PSN Account, leaving out players in nearly 190 other countries, which is a big concern. That does create a valid reason for the community to be outraged, as PlayStation PC players owning the game on Steam won’t be able to create a PSN account to play Helldivers 2. Add in the fact that you can’t refund the game anymore since it’s been out for more than 3 months, things just keep getting messier.
Summary
The timing of all this recent Helldivers 2 PSN Account to Steam Linking Update couldn’t have gotten any worse–because the game has been out for more than 3 months. That means players aren’t getting any refunds. Moreover, Helldivers 2 is still a pretty solid game and mixed feelings tend to rise, considering we’re getting a New War bond, dubbed the Polar Patriots (of course 3 out of 4 weapons will be unusable, and only one new weapon will be OP).
