Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6 is expected to release in Fall of 2025. Numerous GTA 6 leaks, rumors, and everything compiled so far regarding the upcoming installment’s to Rockstar’s hit-franchise give us some insight to what’s coming to the long-awaited game. Here’s everything we know about GTA 6 so far.
GTA 6 is Set in Vice City

GTA 6 is set in Vice City and will feature two main protagonists: Jason and Lucia. It was confirmed this week through Take-Two’s earnings call that the game is set to release in Fall 2025, which means anywhere between late September and early December.
GTA 6 Platform Availability
At launch, GTA 6 will be available only on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. That means no PS4, no Xbox One, and no PC at the initial release.
GTA 6 Main Characters

The game is believed to follow a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story, meaning Jason and Lucia are likely a criminal couple committing heists and crimes together. However, aside from this broad theme, there don’t appear to be many other direct connections between GTA 6 and the infamous real-life duo.
Based on available evidence, Lucia’s actress is likely Manni L. Perez, known for her roles in Law & Order and other TV shows. She has also previously worked on GTA 5. However, Jason’s actor remains unconfirmed. The strongest candidates so far are Dylan Rourke or Jake Silbermann.
Many people wonder how we know Jason’s name since Rockstar has not officially mentioned it. The answer comes from the 2022 GTA 6 leaks, which revealed the character’s name through in-game footage.
GTA 6 Map Size and Expansions

The GTA 6 Mapping Project is currently working to piece together an accurate representation of the game’s world using various methods. So far, it appears that GTA 6’s map will be roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s.
GTA 6 was originally codenamed “Project Americas”, and its map was initially planned to include elements from both North and South America. However, due to technical limitations, it was later downsized. Despite this, a well-known insider has stated that GTA 6’s map is expected to expand over time through future updates.

The 2022 GTA 6 Leaks

On September 18, 2022, a massive leak occurred when 90 clips of GTA 6 development footage were posted on the GTA Forums. These videos provided our best look into new features, mechanics, characters, weapons, and much more.
From these leaks, the community compiled a 64-page document detailing all the findings. Below are some of the key discoveries:
New Characters Mentioned in GTA 6 Leaks
10 GTA VI Characters have been revealed so far for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 installment including the two main protaonists Lucia and Jason. In addition, seveal NPCs have been identified from the leaks. What sticks out is the mention of Jay Norris, from GTA V, indicating that GTA 6 takes place in the HD Universe, now encompassing GTA IV, V, and VI.
- Dre
- Sam
- Wyman
- Billy
- Tit
- Zack
- Kai
- RB Shaw
- Danny
- Iris
- Chester
- Dale
- Jay Norris
Gangs and Factions
The leaks also revealed mentions of two new gangs, in addition to a Far Right Militia, working independently.
- A Haitian gang called “San 4 San”
- The Guardia Brothers
Additionally, there was a reference to a “Far Right Militia,” though it remains unclear whether they are considered a gang or simply a group encountered during the game. It may function similar to the Klan, seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.
GTA 6: Items, Weapons, Activities, and Interiors

Lucia as a Hacker?
There is strong evidence to suggest that Lucia will have hacking abilities in GTA 6. This is based on the items found in the leaks, which include. The game includes Items and Tools which weren’t impemented in previous itereation of the GTA franchise. Items for Healing, Hot-Wiring, using Slim Jims to comandeer cars and the use of binoculars and Auto dialers, indicates an emphasis on a stealtheir approach in GTA 6. Duffle Bags and the ability to carry a limited number of weapons at a time seems like a mechanic taken straight out of Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Auto dialer
- Binoculars
- Immobilizer bypass
- Cut-off tool
- Painkillers and trauma kits (likely used for healing)
- Pool cue
- Food and drinks
- USB drive
- Torch
- SL flashlight
- Tracker jammer
- Duffel bag & backpack (used for looting, a new addition)
- Slim Jim
The Slim Jim is particularly interesting as it is a tool used for breaking into cars. This suggests that stealing cars in GTA 6 will be more complex than simply pressing a button to break a window.
New and Returning Weapons

While many weapons from previous GTA games are expected to return, some new weapons have been discovered in the leaks, including:
- Smoke grenade
- Spear gun
- Polymer pistol (which could introduce metal detectors in certain locations)
- Flashbang
Returning Weapons
- Rocket Launcher
- Baseball Bat
- Knife
- Molotov
- Hunter Sniper Rifle
- Carbine Auto Rifle
- M16 or AK47 Assault Rifle
- Bolt Action Sniper Rifle
- Compact SMG
- Micro SMG
- Heavy Machine Gun
- Pump Action Shotgun
Revamped Weapon Wheel

The weapon wheel has reportedly been completely overhauled. One major change is the addition of a section for grabbing items from a duffel bag or backpack. This suggests that GTA 6 will feature a limited inventory system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, meaning players won’t be able to carry an entire arsenal at all times.
Activities in GTA 6

The leaks also uncovered several activities that will be available in the game, including:
- Golf
- Fishing
- Races
- Scuba diving
- Dice games
Additionally, there were mentions of:
- Van shipments
- Store robberies
- Deliveries
GTA 6 Enterable Buildings: How Many?
One of the biggest debates among GTA fans has been the claim that 70% of all buildings will be enterable. While there is no direct evidence supporting that exact number, leaks confirmed that 157 unique interiors have been discovered, including:
- Malibu Club
- Pawn shops
- Strip clubs
- Supermarkets
- Bars & restaurants
- Apartments
- Laundromats
AI-Generated Interiors for More Immersion
Even though not every building will be enterable, Take-Two has patented new AI technology that can generate realistic interiors. Evidence of this can already be seen in the official trailer, where many apartments appear fully furnished. While it’s unlikely that every apartment will be accessible, this system will help create a more immersive world where buildings feel inhabited rather than just decorative.

GTA 6 Online: What We Know So Far
Not much is known about the new GTA Online, but leaks have provided some key details. One leak included a clip showing two developers spectating a session, with the lobby displaying “2 of 32 players”.
Seamless Lobby Switching
A patent filed by Take-Two Interactive describes a seamless lobby-switching system. Due to the sheer scale of the map, the game will divide the map into multiple sessions that seamlessly transition as players cross boundaries.
GTA 6 Map: How Big Is It?
The GTA 6 map is expected to be massive, and here’s how we know:
- Leaked clips contained a black bar with coordinates tracking the player’s position relative to the RAGE engine.
- Using these coordinates, the GTA 6 Mapping Project has been recreating the map’s layout.
- YouTuber Dark Space is currently building a 1:1 scale version of the map in GTA 5’s RAGE engine.
- In tests, flying across the leaked map took twice as long as doing the same in GTA 5.
Collectibles and Brands
There will be numerous collectible items, including:
- Hats
- Wyman’s car parts (Wyman is an in-game character)
New and returning brands were also found in the leaks, though they don’t serve a major gameplay function.
Cryptids, Wildlife & Animals in GTA 6
The game will feature varied wildlife, including a reference to the Skunk Ape, also known as Florida’s Bigfoot. This suggests that Bigfoot myths will continue in GTA 6. In addition, the normal fauna of GTA VI will consist of animals that we’ve already seen, along with new NPC animals added to the game.
- Snakes & Pythons
- Seagull
- Raccoon
- Skunk
- Alligator
- Boar
- Wading Birds
- Squirrels
- Southern Leopard Frog
- Crayfisgh
- Lizards
- Skunk Ape
- Pigeons
- Opossum
- Whales
- Horses
- Cows
- Deer
- Buck
New Gameplay Mechanics
Several new mechanics are coming to GTA 6, which are similar to the mechanics seen in RDR2. But Rockstar Games, seems to be taking a step forward with the gameplay mechanics in contrast to RDR2.
- Walking in cover
- Going prone
- Loot bags (as previously mentioned)
- Covering your face with weapons
- Downed state – instead of dying instantly, you can:
- Be revived using painkillers
- Be helped by the other protagonist
- Shoulder switching while aiming
- Grappling in fistfights
- Mid-fight communication with the other protagonist
- A ping system
- Leaning or sitting on a car window while shooting
- Eagle Eye system (from RDR2), likely Jason’s ability
- Carrying bodies
- Robbing and threatening NPCs
New Gameplay Systems
GTA 6 introduces several new and expanded systems:
- Money laundering (completely new)
- Purchasable businesses (returning from GTA 5)
- Robberies
- Hacking (likely tied to Lucia)
- Commanding your partner (second protagonist)
- Item sharing between protagonists
- Revamped witness system
- NPCs can report crimes if they see you without a mask
- They can describe both you and your vehicle
New Features
GTA VI also inlcudes some Quality of Life Features or some features that straight up give the game a much more immersive feel. Considering GTA 6 is supposed to be a semi-realistic Grand Theft Auto Sim, these systems might get toned down a bit to make them a bit less taxing for veterans and newcomers alike.
- The ability to play without a mini-map
- A completely revamped Wanted system
- CCTV detection
- Restraining NPCs
- Looting vehicles
- More realistic crashes and car handling (closer to GTA 4)
- More car controls, such as:
- Radio settings
- Rolling windows up/down
- Possibly adjusting seats
- A working GPS inside vehicles
- The ability to enter the passenger seat
Attention to Detail
The attention to detail in GTA 6 is expected to be on another level. Here are some examples:
- Lucia shoots a cop, and the cop struggles to get up, avoiding putting pressure on the wound.
- NPCs now react to attacks more realistically, often pulling out their phones to call the police instead of instantly triggering a Wanted Level.
- NPCs react to police arrivals, making the world feel more immersive.
Over 300 dynamic world events have been found in the leaks, including:
- Gang wars
- Animal encounters
- Lost individuals
- Street races
- Comet water missions
Vehicles and Locations

Returning Vehicles
Some of the confirmed returning vehicles include:
- Bravado Bison
- Karin Rebel
- Vapid Slamvan
- Sanchez motorbike
There are also rumors of train stations and usable trams in the game.
Real-World Inspired Locations

Many real-world locations have been recreated in GTA 6, including:
- Miami Airport
- LoanDepot Park
- King of Diamonds nightclub (renamed Jack of Spades)
- Solar Amphitheater
- Cron Park Tennis Stadium
GTA 6 Release Date
While no exact release date has been given, Take-Two confirmed in their February 6th earnings call that GTA 6 is still on track for a Fall 2025 release.
GTA 6 Roleplay and Rockstar’s Future Plans
GTA RP Integration
GTA Roleplay (RP) isn’t going anywhere, but it likely won’t launch until the PC version arrives (2026). Rockstar’s 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re (creators of FiveM and RedM, used for GTA RP) suggests they want to expand RP in GTA 6.
However, there have been reports of tensions between Rockstar and Cfx.re, leading to speculation about Rockstar’s long-term plans.
User-Generated Content and Rockstar’s Rome Project
Job listings from Rockstar indicate that they are working on a new creator platform codenamed “Rome.” This suggests GTA 6 may focus heavily on user-generated content, possibly integrating modding tools or custom experiences.
